Hattie Vandyk talked about her 40 year long quilting journey and she enthusiatically filled a whole hour with her trunk show. The next day she taught a Wool Applique workshop at Picton Fabric World. See Workshops
March 2017 Program:
Sylvia Naylor spoke about her education in Britain, obtaining a degree in Embroidery, and how fortunate she was to see original textiles from hundreds of years ago. We were delighted to see samples of her creativity, successful projects and to learn how sometimes mistakes are the 'mother of inspiration'! The next day she taught a Workshop at the Milford Town Hall.
April 2017 Program: 4H Achievement Night and Kelly Panacci
Our Guild provides some sewing supplies and monetary aid for the 4H Art Quilting Club. The club members displayed their projects, four of which are being entered into the 2017 CQA Youth Challenge. Congratulations to all!
Kelly Panacci, fellow guild member and fabric designer for Riley Blake Designs, showed us some of her products and she discussed the design process. Kelly treated us to a fat quarter each, featuring one of her fabric lines, then drew 6 names for door prizes too!
May 10, 2017 Meeting: Canada 150 Challenge and A Historical Perspective on our Guild
The Canada 150 Challenge results: Deelia Evans (far left), the Challenge organizer, is shown congratulating the winners: Gwen Thompson (standing beside her quilt on the left) and Penny Hopkins (standing beside her quilt on the right)....the quilt top in the middle is Deelia's....she didn't get it finished in time!
The Program portion of the meeting was a presentation by Greta Kristiansen, a Life Member. She spoke about our Guild's Origin, describing our past 31 years. Special Guests included several Guild Founding Members, and members who have made a significant contribution to the PEC Quilters' Guild. Greta put an enormous amount of time into preparing her presentation and the many wonderful display boards. A really memorable, lovely evening to cherish! Thank you Greta!
June 14, 2017 Meeting: Tracy Powers, of Powers Fitness Inc. gave us a "hands on" tutorial on how to keep our quilting body healthy and limber. With an individual pictorial handout we will be able to work on these exercises and stretches at home, at our own pace! Just before the break: With great pleasure, PECQG President Janet Reader Day awarded a Life Membership, on behalf of the Prince Edward County Quilters' Guild, to Margaret Goode. Maggie spent years working several guild committee jobs, even when they weren't hers to do anymore. She has Chaired on the last two Quilt Shows, she brought us Jenny Doan, she runs Sewing With Friends, and she continues to arrange bus trips for the guild.....what more can I say!
